Congressman Lieu (an Air Force veteran) hosts this annual event around Veterans Day. Approximately 8–9 veterans are invited to each share a brief story about an experience from their time in service (scary, exciting, inspirational, or motivational). Stories focus on what occurred while serving; no questions or discussion follow. The goal is to acknowledge veterans’ experiences and foster greater community appreciation.Who They Are Seeking:
Veterans or reservists who have served on active duty and who live, work, or volunteer in California’s 36th Congressional District or nearby (including the West LA VA area). How Veterans Can Participate:
Interested veterans should contact Janet Turner at Janet.Turner@mail.house.gov or call the office at 323-651-1040. Veterans may email a story or request a phone call so staff can take notes. This is a non-partisan event. Not every volunteer can be selected, as organizers seek a wide range of stories and experiences.Rationale:
Supporting this outreach helps connect local veterans with a respectful platform to share their service experiences and strengthens community recognition of veterans in the Westchester/Playa area and surrounding neighborhoods.
