In his press conference May 29th, Mayor Garcetti announced some of the latest steps the City and County of Los Angeles are taking toward a public health-conscious reopening of local businesses and public spaces.

Here’s an overview of what’s open so far – please keep in mind that this is a summary; detailed guidelines from both the City and the County for safely reopening the places and spaces listed below as well as other types of businesses, in compliance with current public health guidelines, are available at http://coronavirus.LAcity.org/business.

Restaurants, barber shops, and hair salons may now choose to reopen, but under specific guidelines. For example, hair salons and barber shops may only serve one client at a time, and everyone must wear a face covering. Nail salons and businesses providing spa or massage services, or other “close-contact services,” remain closed.

Restaurants may operate at 60% capacity, but their bar areas remain closed. A new program – “LA Al Fresco” – was also announced today, to help restaurants based in the City expand their capacity while maintaining safe social distancing by allowing them to temporarily set up outdoor dining on sidewalks or in parking lots.

As was announced earlier this week, City retail establishments may now open for in-person shopping, and houses of worship may also reopen at either 25% capacity or a maximum 100 person occupancy, whichever is less. Again, physical distancing; face coverings for those operating or visiting these establishments; and other public health protocols must be followed.

Please remember – and please remind those around you – that this is not a return to how things were before COVID began. However, we can begin to return to public spaces if we remain vigilant and do our part to follow public health guidelines.
