LAWA and those who are advocates for LAX expansion are rushing for approval of the SPAS EIR in what can only be considered “a world record” for the fastest turn around time for the largest construction project in the history of Southern California.
The LAWA Staff Preferred Alternatives are 1 & 9.
- Alt 1 will move the northern-most runway 260’ closer to the Westchester/PDR community.
- Alt 9 is the “ground transportation” alternative and includes an Automated People Mover (APM), a Consolidated Rental Car Facility (ConRAC); however LAWA does not intend to implement this in the foreseeable future.
The NCWP position is in support of Alts 2 & 9.
- Alt 2 provides modernization and is recognized as being “environmentally superior” to all other Alternatives and provides the best “airport operational efficiency”. This includes modernization of the airport facilities as well as north airfield safety improvements.
Alt 9 is the “ground transportation” alternative and includes an Automated People Mover (APM), a Consolidated Rental Car Facility (ConRAC). We want this to be one of the first projects not the last.
This process has five meetings left prior to final approval:
