Homelessness & Vehicular Living
Committee Chair: Booker Pearson
Meeting Date: As Needed, please check back for details.
Mission: The mission of the NCWP Ad Hoc Committee on Homelessness and Vehicular Living is to make policy recommendations to and advise the NCWP board regarding people who are living in vehicles and those who are otherwise homeless in Westchester, Playa del Rey and Playa Vista.
Goals: This committee was formed early in 2009 in response to the growing concerns by adjacent neighborhoods regarding homeless individuals living in vehicles on city streets. Another equally important goal is to address the increasing tragedy of homeless individuals and families in our neighborhood. The committee members are Stephen Bentley, Nora Maclellan, Booker Pearson and Rev. J. D. Webster. The committee welcomes all comments which can be sent to inquiries@ncwpdr.org.
May 2010 Report
The program will begin on July 1, 2010 and end June 30, 2011 and will consist of 4 hours per week of homeless outreach provided by PATH. The weekly effort will alternate between a daytime outreach and an evening program that will target individuals and families living in vehicles. Rev. Webster and
The goal is to quickly assess and minister to the needs of the homeless population within the boundaries of the NC. To that end a snapshot of all homeless persons will be conducted over a 48 hour period in September of 2010. Clarence Griffin agreed to coordinate the participation of volunteers from LMU. The committee voted unanimously to request that the full NCWP approve a letter to Councilmember Rosendahl requesting funds to match the $5000 that the NCWP has recently expended to provide district wide homeless out reach. The committee and other stakeholders feel that increasing this badly needed service will benefit not only those down trodden homeless individuals and families in our neighborhoods, but will greatly increase the quality of life or our residents, businesses and visitors. Furthermore, it will substantially reduce the expense and time that our law enforcement and emergency services agencies currently spend dealing with homeless issues.
