Why is being counted important?
The 2020 census is important for many reasons. The results of this once-a-decade count determine the number of seats each state has in the House of Representatives. They are also used to draw congressional and state legislative districts. Most notably is that it determines allocation of federal and state funds including grants for education and community development. While April 1 was the target date for completing 2020 census submissions, there is still time to submit your household census information. Every household should have received as many as 3 notices with guidance how to complete the survey.
