City to Gather, Volunteer at Orville Wright for Special MLK Day Event
On Monday, January 20, 2020, L.A. Works will continue our longstanding tradition of organizing more than a thousand Angelenos to commemorate the national MLK Day of Service holiday by honoring Dr. King’s great dream of “a nation that has a place at the table for children of every race.”
The event will kick-off with the inaugural breakfast conversation: A SEAT AT THE TABLE, co-hosted by LA Magazine and featuring trailblazing community leaders and influencers in dialogue about their journey. After breakfast, volunteers will work together to support access to positive learning environments by beautifying the Orville Wright Middle School STEAM Magnet, an LAUSD Title 1 school, in Westchester.
Special guests in recent years have included: Mayor Eric Garcetti, Councilmembers Mitch O’Farrell and David Ryu, Deputy Mayor Brenda Shockley, Lakers Legends James Worthy, AC Green, and Derek Fisher as well as actors O’ Shea Jackson Jr. and Justin Baldoni and Ret. Judge Candace Cooper.
