  2. Action Item 1: Planning and Goal Setting for New Academic Year

    All NCWP Committees have been charged with submitting goals and plans of action for the upcoming year at the June 4, 2017 NCWP Board Leadership Retreat. As such, the Education Committee will identify plans of action that are within the purview of the NCWP that will help strengthen and improve the publicly funded schools in our area that are attainable, actionable, and beneficial community-wide. We will engage community members (e.g., breakout sessions) to help contribute to the discussion, including the following topic areas:

    1.    Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) Communications with the Community

    2.    Comprehensive Plan for Public School Facilities

    3.    Improved Funding for Local Public Schools

    4.    Other

  3. Action Item 2: Letters to LAUSD School Board District 4 Representatives

    There was a run-off election for LAUSD School Board District 4 on May 16, 2017 between Nick Melvoin and Steve Zimmer. The NCWP Education Committee co-hosted two Candidates Forums involving both candidates (February 6, 2017 at Loyola Marymount University – over 2,400 views of the FB Livestreamed video:; March 23, 2017 – the only live audience Candidates Forum that was held in the run-off election; there were over 1,400 views of the FB Livestreamed video:

    The Committee will discuss whether the NCWP should send letters of: congratulations to incoming LAUSD Board Member Nick Melvoin; and appreciation to outgoing LAUSD Board President Steve Zimmer.
