Committee Chair: John-David Webster

Meeting Date: 4th Tuesday of each month

Mission: To represent the stakeholders of Westchester, Playa del Rey and Playa Vista in regards to the public schools.

Goals: To monitor the academic progress of local public schools, and to represent the interest of stakeholders to the Los Angeles Unified School District, the Innovation Division, Loyola Marymount University School of Education and the Governing Councils of the schools.

 

March 2009 report: 

The committee met briefly to discuss the elections to the governing councils of schools in the Innovation Division.

Our Board Member J.D. Webster was elected as a community member to the Governing Council of Westchester High School.   Jeannie Butler, a local resident and mother of children at Kentwood Elementary School was elected to the second seat.

Community members elected to the Orville Wright Middle School Governance Council were Christina Davis, Executive Director of the LAX Coastal Chamber of Commerce; Brandi Ford of College Bound 4 Kids; and Rebecca Bernal, Field Representative for Assembly Member Curren Price. 

Community members elected to the councils of Kentwood, Cowan Avenue and Westport Heights Elementary Schools will be announced when available.

Comments from the public on Agenda items will be heard only when the respective item is being considered. Comments from the public on other matters not appearing on the Agenda that is within the Board\'s subject matter jurisdiction will be heard during the Public Comment period. Public comment is limited to 2 minutes per speaker, unless waived by the presiding officer of the Board. This is a special, one item agenda at the Westchester Senior High School Library.

  1. Public Comment
  2. Consideration of a motion to recommend that the Neighborhood Council of Westchester Playa join other community-based organizations in supporting the implementation of  The Peters Procedures (http://www.petersprocedures.com/) at Orville Wright Middle School during the 2010-11 School year.
  3. If the motion carries the committee will consider and recommend a specific dollar amount to accompany the motion. 
  4. Motion to adjourn the meeting to allow members to attend the Community Forum with the finalists for the position of Principal at Westchester High School.
